MEN'S TRANSITION PROGRAM
Launched in July 2014 by Pastor Perry Hutchins, who now serves as its director, the Men's Transition Program empowers men to transition out of poverty, homelessness, and addiction. The program enables them to discover their God-given worth and purpose in a safe atmosphere of unconditional love, acceptance, and forgiveness.
This two-day-a-week program provides life skills, specific job skills, nurturing, Bible study, and prayer to men who are homeless and/or unemployed. It is designed to restore dignity and hope for the future while providing training in life and job skills to enable them to get on a path to independence.
The men also participate in a 12-step Life Group in the afternoons, which is a significant means of support and encouragement for every man.
The program is modeled after our informal effort that produced excellent results. A few years ago, we recruited men from our soup kitchen to help us bring in the large food deliveries we need each week. While working informally with the men, providing a structured work environment and community, meals, celebrating birthdays, and helping them access social services, they began to change. Over time, and with the assistance from this ministry, they came out of homelessness and have established new lives.
